Meet Dr. Bynoe

Leon A. Bynoe, M.D., graduated from Brown University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He subsequently attended the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, earning his Doctorate of Medicine degree in 1991. During medical school Dr. Bynoe was awarded a pre-doctoral fellowship from Johns Hopkins to perform scientific research that resulted in multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals.

After an internship in Internal Medicine, Dr. Bynoe completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Barnes Hospital/Washington University at St. Louis Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in 1995. He returned to Johns Hopkins to complete a two-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the Wilmer Eye Institute in 1997. After two years in private practice in Baltimore, Dr. Bynoe moved to South Florida in 1999 and later became a partner in a retina practice. In August 2004, Dr. Bynoe founded Retina Associates of Coral Springs the first truly paperless retina practice in South Florida. Dr. Bynoe is also one of the founding partners and serves on the Board of Directors of Eye Physicians of Florida, the largest private Ophthalmology practice in Florida.

Dr. Bynoe is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has authored numerous articles on diseases of the retina in peer-reviewed journals and has presented original research at several international scientific meetings. Married since 1985, Dr. Bynoe and his wife, Tamora Carter Bynoe, M.D., have two adult children. An avid runner since 1982, Dr. Bynoe also loves watching and playing tennis, listening to music, and traveling the world.
